Mermaid tail patterns are getting their five minutes of fame at the moment so I thought I’d curate some of the most magical free patterns.
Since some of you like to crochet, others love to knit, and some just want to buy a finished product, I’d thought I’d curate a couple of options for everyone.
Mermaid tail patterns: crochet
Bernat My Mermaid Crochet Snuggle Sack
This sleep and snuggle bag pattern from Bernat requires super-bulky yarn (US term, check my yarn weight conversion chart for the yarn equivalent in your country).
You can download the free pattern in either English or French.
Baby mermaid outfit
If you prefer to follow along with someone else, then check out this baby mermaid tail tutorial by Nadia Fuad. I like this pattern because it utilises a crocodile stitch, which I think makes the tail look more realistic and embellished.
I’ve embedded the video so you can play it straight from this page.
Mermaid tail patterns: knitting
Knitted mermaid snuggle sack (adults and children)
Another free pattern from Bernat Yarnspirations. This easy-to-make knitting pattern uses super-bulky yarn (once again, check my yarn conversion chart to see what your local equivalent is).
Cute mermaid blanket from Drops Design
This knitted mermaid blanket for kids pattern can be made in sizes 3-14 years and is free from Garnstudio. The instructions use yarn group E (Garnstudio’s categorisation), and the equivalent UK yarn is super chunky (super bulky for the US and 14 ply for AUS).
Ready-made mermaid tails to buy
Sometimes you just need something now. Like right now. If you don’t have time to knit a mermaid tail yourself, then take a look at this little beauty.
Blankie Tails fleecy mermaid tail
Hattie Peze set up Blankie Tails after spotting a crocheted mermaid tail on Facebook. The fun desn;t stop at mermaid tails either, Blankie Tails also stock shark and orca blankets too. Blankie Tails is a US-based online store.
